Once a proponent decides to proceed with a project, New Energy Corporation Inc. or one of the company’s resellers can provide the services necessary to install and commission the equipment. The installation and commissioning generally includes the following steps:
- Regulatory Approvals
The regulatory approval for an in-stream hydroelectric project generally takes between 3 and 12 months, depending on the jurisdiction that the project is undertaken. This includes approvals from federal and provincial or state organizations that oversee water resources and from the electrical utility that oversees the interconnection of the electrical equipment.
- Installation of Hydrokinetic Equipment
In general, the most difficult aspect of the installation of the hydrokinetic equipment is the installation of the anchor. With the anchor installed, the hydrokinetic system is connected to the anchor and the electrical cable and a safety cable run to shore.
- Installation of Electrical Equipment
The electrical equipment on shore includes the power electronics and interconnection to the grid or load.
